That’s why we are happy to support Trapped in Zone One. They are a London-based community arts organisation. We supplied them with Decorators Varnish® to protect a new mural celebrating South Asian Heritage Month in Camden.
Celebrating Local Communities Through Public Art
Public murals have the ability to transform spaces, tell stories and bring communities together. They become landmarks, conversation starters and lasting reminders of the people who shape neighbourhoods.
Designed following consultation with local residents, this Camden mural celebrates the rich heritage and everyday experiences of the borough’s Bangladeshi community.
The artwork beautifully captures themes of family, culture, food, language, wellbeing and community spirit through a series of carefully curated scenes.
Among the many stories illustrated are:
- A female representing Bangladeshi women who use green spaces to grow vegetables connected with their heritage, while building friendships and supporting community.
- A grandparent teaching their grandchildren Bangla, highlighting the importance of preserving language across generations.
- Men and women cooking together, celebrating food as a central part of Bangladeshi culture.
- Fresh produce grown by local residents, reflecting the importance of gardening, shared meals and community connection.
Every element of the mural was inspired directly by conversations with the Camden community, creating artwork that truly belongs to the people it represents.
